Ursula K. Le Guin on Being Strong

in Ursula K. Le Guin

Being strong is not related to having might. It’s the ability to connect, communicate and empathize that makes us powerful.

“The law of evolution is that the strongest survives! Yes, and the strongest, in the existence of any social species, are those who are most social. In human terms, most ethical. There is no strength to be gained from hurting one another. Only weakness.”

Ursula K. Le Guin

Ursula Kroeber Le Guin (b. 1929) is the author of many novels for adults and children, poetry, short stories, screenplays, essays, and verbal texts for musicians. Much of her science fiction explores the themes of Taoism, anarchy, race, feminism, psychology, and ecology. The third and fourth Earthsea books were used as the basis of the animated film Tales From Earthsea, directed by Hayao Miyazaki’s son, Goro.
